An ammeter shunt is a special type of current-sensing resistor

An ammeter shunt is really a special kind of MP7002 current-sensing resistor, acquiring four terminals plus a benefit in milliohms or even micro-ohms. Current-measuring instruments, by on their own, can usually acknowledge only limited currents. To measure STK7562J higher currents, the present passes with the shunt, wherever the voltage drop is measured and interpreted as latest. A normal shunt consists of two strong metal blocks, occasionally VCT3831A-C4 brass, mounted on to an insulating base. Amongst the blocks, and soldered or brazed to them, are a single or more strips of low temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) manganin AS2000P alloy. Huge bolts threaded in to the blocks make the current connections, although much-smaller screws present voltage connections. Shunts are rated by full-scale existing, and typically have a voltage drop of fifty mV at rated latest. Such meters are adapted towards the shunt complete existing rating by using an appropriately marked dial deal with; no transform want be manufactured fuse towards the other parts in the meter.
