Whats the best antivirus at the store?

we have an hp pavilion dv7 laptop. it has 640 gb. we had got norton n it ruined everything it deleted all the programs on the computer like the volume the zoom on the screen. everything we clicked on anything n it said file may have been moved or deleted. my boyfriend played with it and we updated to explorer 9. however we had it so we restored it to out of the factory mode n its back to normal. so now we want to buy a new anti-virus that doesnt remove our programs such as windows media player, internet explorer our webcam programs that just come with the laptop n etc. so whats a good antivirus at the store. we dont want to download anything for free because unfortunately my boyfriend looks at porn =( so we want something that works. norton worked it just removed everything!!! n i mean everything!
