Braces or orthodontic devices can be applied for those with severe teeth misalignment problems. Metal braces are the most traditional orthodontic treatment to straighten the teeth. These are very strong and rarely break. However, these can be quite unattractive and some people dislike the metal mouth look. Modern cosmetic dentistry has dental equipment  come up with invisible braces to blend with the natural colour of the teeth. These are also more comfortable than metal braces and are less irritating to the gums. However, these can cost considerably more than traditional braces. Strength is also an issue because invisible braces are not as strong as metal ones.

 

There are also gum problems that can be addressed by cosmetic dentistry. Cosmetic gum surgery can correct a smile that shows a significant portion of the gums, sometimes called gummy smile. These often require tissue reduction wherein the gums are repositioned and allowed to heal to achieve a beautiful new smile. Ageing can also dental instruments  give rise to gum problems such as receding gums or shrinking gums. This is common in adults over the age of 40 and is treated with bite adjustment, bite splint, or graft surgery for more advanced cases. The treatment of gum disease is also a part of cosmetic dentistry.
